Comprehensive three‐dimensional morphology of neoangiogenesis in pulmonary veno‐occlusive disease and pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis
2019
Abstract Pulmonary veno‐occlusive disease (PVOD) is a rare lung disease characterized by fibrotic narrowing of pulmonary veins leading to pulmonary hypertension (PH) and finally to death by right heart failure. PVOD is often accompanied by pulmonary capillary hemangiomatosis (PCH), a marked abnormal proliferation of pulmonary capillaries. Both morphological patterns often occur together and are thought to be distinct manifestations of the same disease process and accordingly are classified together in group 1′ of the Nice classification of PH. The underlying mechanisms of these aberrant remodeling processes remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the three‐dimensional struc…
Treatment and Prophylaxis
1991
Following a stroke, the patient’s neurologic deficit may be most impressive, but his treatment and prognosis depend largely upon accompanying systemic disorders. Acute treatment, for instance, must take into consideration such things as cardiovascular disorders (myocardial infarction, valve defects, arrhythmias, hypertension), disorders of renal function, and diabetes mellitus. The early detection and treatment of such systemic problems can help to prevent complications that would be difficult to control later. Thus, in a patient with latent heart disease hypervolemic therapy with low molecular weight dextran may in fact elicit right heart failure and pulmonary edema instead of helping the …
S3-Leitlinie „Einsatz der intraaortalen Ballongegenpulsation in der Herzchirurgie“
2015
Although intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP) is the most frequently used mechanical cardiac assist device in cardiothoracic surgery, there are only guidelines for substantive sections of aortic counterpulsation including prophylactic and postoperative use. In contrast, evidence-based recommendations are still lacking concerning intraoperative use, management, contraindication and other relevant issues. According to international surveys, important aspects of IABP usage show a wide variation in clinical practice. The results of a national questionnaire performed before initiation of this guideline confirmed these findings and demonstrated a clear need for the development of a consensus-based…
Phosphodiesterase-5 Inhibition Alleviates Pulmonary Hypertension and Basal Lamina Thickening in Rats Challenged by Chronic Hypoxia
2018
javax.xml.bind.JAXBElement@6f8948ff Hypoxia represents both an outcome of cardiopulmonary diseases and a trigger for severe pulmonary complications as pulmonary hypertension. Because nitric oxide (NO) is a critical mediator in the development of pulmonary hypertension, the modulators of its downstream function may become target of pharmacological interventions aimed at alleviating the impact of this condition. Here, we investigate the effects of an early administration of phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitor in rats where pulmonary artery hypertension was induced by chronic exposure to hypoxia. javax.xml.bind.JAXBElement@162dc677 Rats were divided into three groups: normoxic control, hypoxic with …
